Linda Trinh is a Vietnamese Canadian author who writes fiction and nonfiction for children and adults. She explores identity, cultural background, and spirituality. The Nguyen Kids, her debut early chapter book series published with Annick Press, explores Vietnamese culture and identity through the eyes of the Nguyen siblings, with elements of the supernatural, spirituality, and social justice woven in. For the series, Linda hopes some readers may be able to see themselves reflected. For readers who do not share these lived experiences, she hopes they are able to imagine what life is like for someone else. All of this to ultimately spark understanding and connection.
Linda’s work has appeared in anthologies and literary magazines such as The Fiddlehead, Room, This Magazine, The Nasiona, and Prairie Fire. She has been nominated for two National Magazine Awards.
She spends a lot of time staring out her window, daydreaming, and pacing around the house, writing in her head way before she types out anything. She lives in Winnipeg with her family.
Getting to Know You
I never hid the books that I was reading as a kid. My sister and I grew up with a single mom who was always busy working or cooking or cleaning, so as long as I was reading, she did not care about the kinds of books. I did try to hide how late I would stay up reading when I should have been sleeping 😊.

I refer to this line in my book, The Secret of the Jade Bangle, as I love it so much. The line reminds me there’s potential for a fresh start always, and hope.
I do like a clean desk without too much paper or clutter, so I may focus on what I’m doing. And at the same time, I love to surround myself when I write with my treasures – amethyst crystals, rocks and a piece of quartz from the shores of Lake Winnipeg, and charms from my travels from around the world – for inspiration and grounding.
TIME! Do I have enough time to do what I have to do and do what I want to do? Am I using my time wisely? Will I run out of time? How do I find more time?
To paint, to understand colour and perspective, to explore this creative form more fully. I love the sensation of a paintbrush on canvas and how the practice allows me to be in the moment.
